WHICH TOYS ARE GOOD AND WHICH ARE BAD FOR YOUR CHILDRENS DEVELOPMENT?
On the 12/5/2015, the Taliban placed a ban on the sales of toy guns so as to curb the culture of violence.
Studies have shown that there are toys that help in the positive development of the children while some develops a child negatively.
For instance, a doll given to a girl-child develops motherly quality in her as she spends her time cleaning, clothing, combing, pretending to be feeding the child, preparing a bed for the child, bathing the child. Etc
These activities evoke love and affection in the mind and heart of the girl-child.
This toy in other words, prepares a girl-child for the humane attributes which are characteristics of a good wife and a caring mother.
It creates in the child the habit of cooking, cleaning the house, tending on someone in need, bathing the child, etc, which in later life becomes part of her and so when eventually married, household chores are never a burden to her.
The boy-child on the other hand, given a toy car, also unconsciously develops the desire to becoming a mechanic, a driver, an electrical engineer or even a vulcanizer.
Other toys like brick games also develop the desire of being able to solving difficult problems or of being a builder in the mind of the boy-child.
These activities also builds up the child to grow up becoming creative and self-reliant as he is already able to find his way around difficult situations.
Some of these toys help the boy-child to become a provider of solution to difficult problems, a provider of food in the family, creates ingenuity in the minds of the child, helps him to be more creative in life.
With these values in the life of a boy-child, he is already prepared for the masculine duty and the role of a man as provider in the family and in the society.
The provision of toy-guns to a child teaches the child only one thing; to become a shooter. In this regards, it makes no difference what the child can shoot. It could be an individual; the sister, brother, father, mother, friend, etc.
Like the saying which goes thus: Teach a child while still young so that when old should not depart from it. the child is already being trained to shoot.
As the child grows, s/he likes to use the real thing because s/he has outgrown the use of toy.
The real question now comes where will s/he use the gun and on who, there are only two places to join and use a real gun; either to join the force, or to join the bad group; that is, armed rubbers.
What do you think happens when a child desires to join force so as to be able to use a real gun and is not able to do so?
So know the type of toys you give to your children. They could either help them positively or negatively.
